This project is a hypothetical cover design for Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) Magazine. The project involved researching and presenting an assigned historical typeface as a feature of the magazine.
Caroline Minuscule was created in the 8th century by order of Charlemagne, King of the Franks and Rome's very first emperor. The typeface was developed by scribes in scriptoria, special rooms in medieval monasteries reserved for book copying. Caroline Minuscule served as the foundation of the lowercase letters we use today. For the cover design, this image was created to place Caroline Minuscule in its historical context. The props were assembled and stained by hand and shot the photograph in candle light.
